Our Materials

Everything we make is solid gold. Not plated, not filled, not vermeil — the gold goes all the way through.

Solid 14k gold

14k gold is about 58% pure gold, alloyed with other metals for strength. Pure 24k gold is too soft to hold a setting or survive daily wear; 14k keeps the warmth of gold and adds the durability an everyday piece needs.

Because the gold is solid, there is no surface layer to wear through. A piece can be polished, resized and repaired years from now and it will still be gold underneath.

14k is our standard across the collection, and rings and earrings are also offered in 10k gold. 10k gold is about 42% pure gold — a harder alloy with a slightly paler color.

No plating, no vermeil

Three things are often sold as “gold jewelry.” They are not the same:

• Gold plated — a microscopic layer of gold over a base metal. It wears through with use; how fast depends on how thick the layer is and how often the piece is worn.
• Gold vermeil — a thicker layer of gold over sterling silver. Better, but still a layer, and it still wears.
• Solid gold — gold throughout. Nothing to wear off. This is what we make.

We do not sell plated, vermeil or sterling silver jewelry.

Stones

Our stones are cubic zirconia, hand-set. A small number of pieces use hand-applied enamel instead — the product page says which. Cubic zirconia is a made stone rather than a mined one — clear, hard, and cut to throw light in bright flashes. It is what lets a solid gold piece stay wearable every day.

Each product page lists what that particular piece is made of. If a detail is not listed, it is because we have not verified it, and we would rather leave it out than guess.

Made by hand

Every piece is handcrafted to order in our atelier and finished by hand. Small variations between pieces are a normal part of that, not a defect.
